Getting into the Halloween spirit with Pumpkin Carving at Lewisham Shopping Centre

The Greenwich Mummy | Lewisham Shopping Centre Halloween Special

This October half term has been a lot of fun for the kids this year. Normally I am not involved with Halloween activities as I’m not a big fan of the day (Vietnamese superstitions and all) but this year I wanted to put myself aside and let the kids have their fun.

Pumpkin Carving in Lewisham

Little Man had a lot of fun carving and decorating his pumpkin at the Lewisham Shopping Centre‘s Pumpkin Party. It was a free event and lots of people came by the stand to have a go at carving. Little Man and I had a team effort – we traced the stencil together then took turns to carve sections of the pumpkin. When it came to scooping out the fleshy bits (which he called “scooping the guts out”) he left that to me.

When it came to decorating it with glitter he was great at doing it himself. Of course, I had to join it – who can resist a bit of glitter fun?

Halloween shopping at Lewisham Centre

We also did a little bit of shopping after our pumpkin carving. We headed to H&M and I bought for Little Man the coolest reversible sequin ghost jumper which he has loads of fun flipping around. For Little Miss, I got her a glittery black tulle dress and alice cat veil as she wanted to be a cat for Halloween. We also went to M&S and picked up loads of treats including chocolates, jelly sweets and lots of Halloween snacks for a mini party at home. *update* the stores now have their Christmas range in stock. H&M also have a lovely collection of Frozen apparel, also in time for the movie launch.

Our last little shop was to Smiggle for some stationary fun. We had a good look around the little shop. At the moment, they’ve just launched a new range of Frozen stationary – in time for the Frozen 2 movie. The backpacks look amazing and kids can choose from the sparkly gold Anna accessories or the shimmery icy blue Elsa accessories. My preference would be the Anna collection as it’s such a beautiful gold colour but I know Little Miss would prefer the Elsa collection. We also picked up a handy all-in-one Smiggle dinosaur pencil case for Little Man. It’s got a section for pens and pencils, a special compartment for the eraser and the sharpener and even comes with a mini calculator. Perfect for secondary school kids but just as cool for primary school kids IMO. Also, Smiggle Lewisham currently has a 25% off everything promo in store (excludes Frozen 2 and Star Wars collections) so make sure you pop into your local store and check out the goods.

More pumpkin fun…

On Wednesday we headed out to Stanhill Farm to pick some pumpkins. It was a first experience for all of us so it was really nice to be able to share that with each other.

It took us two buses to make the journey however as the buses take a longer route, it also took us around 1.5hrs when by car it would’ve been a decent 25-30mins journey. On our way back, we took an uber ride home as we had heavy pumpkins and I wasn’t ready for any restless tantrums on the buses for another 1.5 hours.

The pumpkin patch at Stanhill Farm is a good size with lots of pumpkins to choose from. There was even a little area where the farmers had put a load of pumpkins together so you can take some lovely photos if you wanted to. Only Little Man was cooperating with me for the photos but I did get some really nice shots of them around the patch. 🙂

I made a little video of our outing too. You can watch it here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hVb3GeecdhI

NB. We were kindly gifted shopping vouchers in exchange for our pumpkin carving experience review. All words, content and unbiased opinion are my own.

Style Trends: 6 of the BEST beanie hats at John Lewis this winter

The Greenwich Mummy Blog - Top 6 Beanie Hats at John Lewis

I went along to the MyJohnLewis shopping event at John Lewis Oxford Street today and boy was there a LOT of people buying stuff! It was amazing but slightly claustrophobic at the same time. I went without the kids and as my friend Dinah and I scoffed mini mince pies and washing them down with elderflower pressé for me (prosecco for her… two glasses) we had a good nosey around the giant store.

As former John Lewis employees (our first school-leaving job, that’s where we met!) it was good to see that the British company was still doing really well. A lot has changed at their Oxford Street store since I was last there which was years ago, mind you. They now have a wonderful roof garden up on the 5th floor and the majority of level 2 or 3 is dedicated to eating and dining.

We headed up to the 4th floor which is the children’s department and took a look at all the toys on offer. If you’re with the kids and are in Oxford Street, pop in and head up to the 4th floor because Moz the Monster (from under the bed) has his little pop-up house there which you can visit. You can even take a selfie with Moz as we did:

They really put on a treat with their Moz the Monster’s house. When we had finished having our bit of fun, we carried on looking around the store and I came across, what I think, are the best beanie hats I’ve seen in a while. So without further ado, here’s my top six of the best beanie hats from John Lewis.

John Lewis Price Match Promise
“Never knowingly undersold” – Today John Lewis are matching a competitor’s promotion

2. Barts Joy Beanie, £26.99

So this is the other John Lewis beanie that I’m in love with. “You had me at Merlot” – how cute! (Even though I don’t even drink Merlot). I’m loving the funny quote and the Christmassy red colour… that pom pom is amazing too!

4. John Lewis Multi Stitch Pom Beanie, £20

Something for those who prefer simple, good quality knits

My top 10 products to buy a new mum & baby

The Greenwich Mummy Blog - Top 10 Buys Kiddicare Wishlist

Firstly… CONGRATULATIONS!

(If you’re not expecting and reading this, here are some great gifts for family members or friends who are)

Expecting a baby whether it’s your first or third is a wonderful experience but it can also be a stressful one. Planning ahead can make things a little easier but from my experience I found that by ‘winging it’ and improvising along the way yields near enough the same results so why add on the extra stress? It’s a bit harder to not stress when it’s your first baby – I remember when I was pregnant with LO I made plans and notes constantly. 1) because of baby brain, I could hardly remember anything and needed constant reminders and 2) I became a little OCD with planning because at the time it felt like it was making a difference and made me feel more in control of my pregnancy.

If you’re a mum to be, you can use this post as a starting point for your wishlist… gifts are what baby showers or  baby sprinkles (mini showers for 2nd, 3rd babies) are for! Don’t be shy ladies, everyone who has children knows how hard and expensive raising a child/children can be and we all need a little help from time to time and showers are the time they should be accepted without arguments. Just don’t go crazy and extravagant with your wishlist or your guests may not turn up! 🙂

I decided to split this list into 5 products for baby and 5 for the expecting parent because gifts aren’t always for bubba, they’re also for the new mum. (sorry Dads-to-be!) Continue reading “My top 10 products to buy a new mum & baby”

I’ve already put up my Christmas tree!

It’s almost that time of the year!

I can’t believe that Christmas is just a month (and a half) away?!

I’m not joking, I’ve already put up my tree but I’m not going to post a photo just yet as it’s still slightly bare so I’ve found a pretty photo on Google for you to admire in the meantime…

Bring on the cinnamon scented candles, presents and mince pies! 🙂

My Ipanema Wishlist For Summer

My Ipanema Wish List
Click here to see the full range at Ipanema.uk.com

Summer is approaching thick and fast! I need to start booking my pedicure appointments now to get my toes in tip-top condition and buy a good-quality pair of flip flops from my Ipanema Wish List for summer.

All those long winter months I have been very lazy and neglecting my feet. Apart from a seriously good pedicure, they also need some good-fitting sandals this year. Ever since my pregnancy the soles of my feet have become really dry and the back of the feet are hard and slightly cracking so a paraffin wax pedicure is definitely in order. I am also thinking of having CND Shellac gel on my toes this summer as they last much longer than normal polish. If you’re going abroad and to the beach, I’d highly recommend a gel polish because you will be able to dip your feet in the sea and the sand won’t be able to chip your polish!

I also can’t wear heels anymore since I have had LO so I think the easiest way to give my feet a good rest is to invest in some well-made summer footwear. No more cheap £4.00 flip flops from Primark that wear away within two weeks and leave my soles black from the friction. I’ve seen two pairs from the Ipanema official UK website that have taken my fancy; they are the Festival sandal and the Bella Platform.

My Ipanema Wish List
The Ipanema Festival Sandal (£20)

The Festival Sandal, £20 is incredibly stylish and would look great during the day or at night. The pretty gold chevron detail looks gorgeous and can be easily teamed up simple accessories and maxi dress for a casual style or dressed up with denim jeans for a night out.

The Bella Platform, £22 is perfect for adding some height to your look, platform sandals are also recommended if you (like me) walk with more pressure applied on the back of the foot. I love the Bella design as it’s simple but stylish and the added heel will provide my feet with some gentle relief and won’t wear away easily.

About The Company
The company originates from Brazil and all of the footwear is only produced by their own factories located in the North of Brazil. Each flip flop is made with Brazilian spirit and culture in mind hence the vibrant and colourful designs. Ipanema sandals are 100% recyclable and can only be bought in the UK by selected official stockist.
