Love a good curry but don’t know how to make your own paste? Or maybe, like me, you just don’t have the time?
Fear not because help is at hand. I love all these companies that deliver fresh food straight to your door – Hello Fresh, Fresh Fitness Food, and a new fresh curry paste company that I discovered last week called Mister Paste.
A former work colleague told me about Mister Paste (it’s her partner’s business) and she asked if I would like to try out some of their products – of course I said yes! 🙂
1) because I love food and 2) because helping out other small businesses is a good thing
She sent me a link to her partner’s website and I checked out the large range of pastes and sauces available. The site was really easy to navigate around and I was surprised with how cheap the pastes were as they’re made fresh. I chose the portion option for two people as I knew LO and Baby Girl would just be eating from our portion.
So I chose two curry pastes that I am very fond of; Thai Green Curry and Rogan Josh. For me, the balance of spices, sweetness and saltiness has to be on point in order for me to consider the recipe being a fantastic one. I had very high expectations for these curry pastes that I was going to try.
It’s been such a long time since I last posted anything and it’s because there’s been quite a few changes. I came up to the end of my maternity leave and decided to go back to work… just not back to where I was working. There was nothing wrong with the place – I had a good team, the workload was manageable and I liked the workplace but now with two children under 5, the commuting made me anxious to return.
I found another job closer to home, it’s literally a 5 mins walk away which obviously much more convenient in terms of travel. Dropping off LO at nursery is en route to work and the job role gives me more flexibility. I can choose to work from home if I have childcare problems and can’t get into the office and I can spread my hours over the week (working half-days) without having to worry about any bus, tube or train commuting. Ker-ching!
So that’s basically why I’ve not been present on the old blogosphere for the last month. Work is manic – I have paperwork, bookings and deadlines up to my ears. Already! It’s stressful but I guess it is because it’s still early days. When I got an email asking if I’d like to write a review on personalised jewellery I said yes without hesitation. It’s been such a long time since I owned any piece of jewellery it was a chance for me to reintroduce myself to it.
It’s Shrove Tuesday today aka Pancake Day and what better way to enjoy this day than bake up a fresh batch of pancakes to enjoy with the family… or all by yourself. 🙂
I’ve got TWO amazingly simple recipes for you today; the first one is a chocolate protein pancake one that I’ve dressed with a low-calorie mint choc ice cream and dark chocolate drizzle, and the second is a simple oat pancake with coconut yoghurt and berries. Yum!!
I read a post on the World Vision blog and a couple of other mummy blogs answering the question, “what was the last thing your child needed?” and wanted to give my little response and thoughts on the question.
The last thing my children needed was pretty much the basics… food and changing. Changing nappies for Baby Girl, changing clothes for LO.
Baby Girl did her morning poop and needed me to keep her clean and fresh. She’s such a good baby and doesn’t complain much when it comes to a dirty nappy. She’ll happily stay in the nappy for hours but obviously I’d smell her way before that time. However something as easy and simple as this could’ve been difficult if I didn’t have the right things to hand ie a nappy or wipes. Fair enough, it’s possible to change a baby without wipes – I could just use cotton balls and water but what if I didn’t even have those? Since I started my fitness journey last August 2016 I’ve been eating much healthier than before. I’ve cut out a lot of the processed foods I used to eat before and try to consciously opt for complex carbohydrates over simple carbs. The reason for this is because of my high-risk for developing Type II Diabetes later in life. Diabetes runs in my family, both on my maternal and paternal side then to top it off I had Gestational Diabetes in both pregnancies.
So yeah… really high risk.
I am human and sometimes I do slip up and have chocolates, cakes and biscuits but try to have a really small portion. After all, eating a healthy diet doesn’t mean eliminating treats 100% out of your diet. Healthy eating is about balance, sustainability and having a positive association with food. Basically if you eat a large slice of pizza (or the whole pizza), don’t put yourself on a massive guilt trip for it and ‘punish yourself’ by eating less the next day or putting your body through hours of cardio trying to ‘burn off’ the added calories. Instead acknowledge that you’ve been able to enjoy yourself that day with that meal and eat a little better the week ahead to balance it out. Remember, one pizza won’t make you fat nor will one salad make you healthy.
I’m currently increasing my calorie intake to build up my muscle size and strength. As my weight loss stalled in December (plateaued at 51.8kg despite me increasing workouts and cutting a few more calories) I decided to reverse diet (where your aim is to gradually add back the cals in an attempt to kickstart your metabolism) which is going well. I love finding a good bargain so when things I like go on sale, I try my utmost to grab a bargain. However, what I hate most about store sales are the long queues, the messy sales racks, and simply… the crazy shoppers.
Since I’ve gotten older I just find sales shopping really overwhelming, overbearing and claustrophobic. Nowadays I just shop online from my mobile or computer and enjoy the fact that I don’t have to step foot into a store, queue up for hours or interact with anyone. Just me and my computer/mobile. Happy times.
I recently came across a sales site called lovethesales.com. They’re a bit like a Google search engine for sale items. From what I’ve gathered, the website pulls through thousands of sale items that are currently on offer from hundreds of online retailers for us to ogle at and buy. The website caters to all departments; womenswear, menswear, kidswear, home & outdoor furniture, kids toys… the lot. The retailers the site pulls through ranges from cheap and cheerful high-street stores to your high-end retailers like Ralph Lauren, French Connection, etc.
However like any good deal, the items are only on the site for a limited time then new ones are added. Once that happens, if you’re too late you can miss out on a really good deal. I had my eyes set on a brilliant train set from Toys R Us that was £24.99, down from £49.99 but as I was too busy contemplating for a couple of days whether it’d be a useful gift, when it came to the day I wanted to buy it the deal was gone.
