Style Trends: 6 of the BEST beanie hats at John Lewis this winter

The Greenwich Mummy Blog - Top 6 Beanie Hats at John Lewis

I went along to the MyJohnLewis shopping event at John Lewis Oxford Street today and boy was there a LOT of people buying stuff! It was amazing but slightly claustrophobic at the same time. I went without the kids and as my friend Dinah and I scoffed mini mince pies and washing them down with elderflower pressé for me (prosecco for her… two glasses) we had a good nosey around the giant store.

As former John Lewis employees (our first school-leaving job, that’s where we met!) it was good to see that the British company was still doing really well. A lot has changed at their Oxford Street store since I was last there which was years ago, mind you. They now have a wonderful roof garden up on the 5th floor and the majority of level 2 or 3 is dedicated to eating and dining.

We headed up to the 4th floor which is the children’s department and took a look at all the toys on offer. If you’re with the kids and are in Oxford Street, pop in and head up to the 4th floor because Moz the Monster (from under the bed) has his little pop-up house there which you can visit. You can even take a selfie with Moz as we did:

JL besties – A big cuddle with Moz

They really put on a treat with their Moz the Monster’s house. When we had finished having our bit of fun, we carried on looking around the store and I came across, what I think, are the best beanie hats I’ve seen in a while. So without further ado, here’s my top six of the best beanie hats from John Lewis.

John Lewis Price Match Promise
“Never knowingly undersold” – Today John Lewis are matching a competitor’s promotion

This fabulous cat pattern beanie hat is totally divine. I really love it, I think it’s actually one of my faves from this list (alongside the merlot one!) – not only is it quite a sophisticated looking hat, it’s also really cool and quirky and SO going on my Christmas wishlist!

2. Barts Joy Beanie, £26.99

Look at those super-cute fluffy ears! How can you not love this beanie hat by BARTS, it would make a great hat for the girls or even us ladies who’re looking for something a bit different and stylish. Faux faur and felines never go out of style, dahling!

3. You Had Me At Merlot Pom Pom Beanie Hat, £22

A funny beanie that’ll get you into the festive spirit (it’s red too!)

So this is the other John Lewis beanie that I’m in love with. “You had me at Merlot” – how cute! (Even though I don’t even drink Merlot). I’m loving the funny quote and the Christmassy red colour… that pom pom is amazing too!

4. John Lewis Multi Stitch Pom Beanie, £20

Something for those who prefer simple, good quality knits

The knitting on this is simply beautiful and the colours on this multi stitch hat will definitely brighten up any dull day. Think super soft textures, and chunky warm knits. Ideal for the cold British winter.

5. Helly Hansen Knitted Beanie Hat, £30

A beanie for gadget guys – complete with removable pom pom feature

This Helly Hansen beanie comes with a cool feature; you can attach and detach the pom pom. Two styles for the price of one, both functional and attractive. Well done Helly Hansen!

Mothercare Greenwich: New store celebrates with #Welcometotheclub launch event

The Greenwich Mummy Blogger | London Family and Lifestyle Blog

At the beginning of November to launch the new opening of the Mothercare Greenwich store which is based over at the Brocklebank retail park in Charlton (near to the Wickes Charlton store for you locals), the big parenting brand partnered with a team of top parenting experts, including Zoe De Pass of @DressLikeaMum, to host an exciting interactive evening, offering honest advice and tips to expectant parents.

It was a brilliant event and a shame as I wasn’t able to make it because everyone looked like they had loads of fun! Those who attended received personal shopping experiences, exclusive discounts on top of the special workshops and talks hosted by parenting experts.

Hosts from the night…

Zoe De Pass – trendy mummy, influencer and fashion blogger
Zoe is known for her fantastic taste in mum-friendly attire that is super stylish. I love looking at her instagram page for style inspo. At the event she spoke about how maternity style can be done without compromise. The mother of two and fashion blogger is on a mission to challenge misconceptions of dressing like a mum. Zoe also introduced her picks from Mothercare’s capsule collection, THE EDIT, which includes trend-led separates and dresses that can be mixed and matched to offer fashionable yet comfortable solutions to dressing during pregnancy and nursing. It’s great that there’s now a wide range of stylish maternity wear to choose from.

Beth Kitt – midwife and parenting book author
New parent myths like baby brain were dispelled by midwife and author Beth Kitt. Curious parents-to-be could ask as many questions about parenting and parenthood to their heart’s content. With years of experience in midwifery, Beth shared her invaluable tips on pregnancy and surviving the first few weeks with a new baby. She is the author of the book, ‘The Bump to Baby Chapter’.

Liz Day – parenting consultant
Liz talked about the ultimate hospital bag checklist to prepare expectant parents for labour, birth and the first few hours with a newborn. From nursing bras and birthing plans, to headphones for labour playlists, and cotton nightwear to stay cool. This is one talk that I would highly recommend to all new parents. When I was a first time mum, I never got the chance to attend these kind of events (I’d always missed them ironically) but my BabyCentre forum helped me out a lot! A lot of the mums on there were 2nd time mums so they gave me a great insight on what’s essential to bring and what’s not too important.

So as you can see, attendees were treated to a night filled with fabulous people and information. With the event being a great turnout, Mothercare Greenwich has already lined up their next store event. On Sunday 10th December (10:30am-12:30pm) they will be hosting their Expectant Parent event – you can reserve your free space at Mothercare Greenwich here.

The Expectant Parent Event will be running from December 3-10 2017 at Mothercare stores around the UK. You can find your nearest participating store in the link at the bottom of this post. It’s a free event but you have to reserve your space. The event will include car safety and car seat fitting advice, the latest sleep safety advice (very important as sometimes this changes year to year following new research), pushchair and pram choices, and even baby and child first aid however this is at selected stores only.

On their website, you can also join their MyMothercare club to get email notifications of when they have new events, invitations to exclusive events, special discounts including money off-vouchers, be the first to know about their sales and much more. I’m a part of the MyMothercare club and I love it.

From Barbells to Boardroom

I love working out at the gym. There’s nothing more refreshing that a morning weight training session before work! It works up a proper sweat but sometimes that can make going straight to work a bit of a bother, especially if you feel the need to freshen up.

Heritage businesswear company, T.M.Lewin came up with this super helpful infographic. It’s got some fab tips that can really help a guy out – for us gals, there’s also some good advice on there that we can benefit from too!

Thanks, TM Lewin! 🙂

My Kaya Jewellery Wishlist + Amazing Giveaway!

Hi all!

It’s been a while since I made a wishlist or hosted any giveaways so I am over the moon to be hosting a brand new jewellery giveaway! 🙂

You can be in with a chance of winning a £40 gift voucher to spend at Kaya Jewellery – a UK handmade and personalised jewellery company with a conscience. Part of the company’s project goes towards the Eduki Foundation which helps children in Gambia get an education. Personally I am a big advocate of improving children’s education and I think the company is doing a great job to help out – last year, the they donated 2,500 euros to the Eduki Foundation.

I want to kick start the giveaway with my top 5 wishlist items to give you guys a glimpse into what Kaya Jewellery offers.

They have a fabulous range of both silver and pearl jewellery but not much is available if you’re more of a gold jewellery fan. There are a few really nice gold pieces on the site but I think the majority is silver jewellery. Being a fan of both gold and silver, I find that silver jewellery stands out more against my skin whereas gold jewellery blends in with my skin tone a little bit more. Right now… I’m a fan of silver jewellery.

So without further ado, here are my top 5 wishlist items:

1. Jasseron Bracelet with initial engraving

The Greenwich Mummy Blog | Kaya Jewellery Wishlist & Giveaway

This beautiful silver Jasseron bracelet has solid soldered links which makes the bracelet stronger. It’s available in both women’s and baby’s size and can be engraved with one or two initials. I love the heart and pear charm – it’s so adorable. I wouldn’t purchase it for Baby Girl because she’s only 13 months old so a little too young in my opinion to wear jewellery accessories but it’d make a great gift for an older child or teenager.

2. Personalised ‘Twinkle Twinkle’ star necklace

The Greenwich Mummy Blog | Kaya Jewellery Wishlist & Giveaway

This silver engraved Twinkle Twinkle chain is so cute and perfect for little girls. There’s something I find really innocent and child-like about star pendants on a chain. This one even comes with a coloured pearl charm which you can choose the colour of. This silver necklace can be engraved on both the front and the back but it’s limited to 9 characters so bear that in mind.

3. Matching Mum & Me necklaces

The Greenwich Mummy Blog | Kaya Jewellery Wishlist & Giveaway

This silver Mum & Me necklace set would make a really good Mother’s Day gift or a birthday gift for yourself and/or your daughter. I love the design concept of the child’s heart pendant fitting into the mum’s pendant. It’s so clever. Like the previous two items in my wishlist this one also has the pearl charm… I think I have a secret thing for pearls! 🙂

4. Silver ‘Entwined’ necklace

The Greenwich Mummy Blog | Kaya Jewellery Wishlist and Giveaway

This silver necklace ‘entwined’ design is very symbolic – to me the larger ring represents the mother and the small one represents the child. As stated above, you can personalise the rings if you want to (why wouldn’t you?) with up to 20 characters on the large ring and up to 8 characters on the smaller ring. The engraving is also done by hand by the company owner, Tanja – it doesn’t get any more personalised than that. I chose this necklace because even though it’s quite a simple design, sometimes the simpler ones are the most beautiful.

5. Silver baby bangle

The Greenwich Mummy Blog | Kaya Jewellery Wishlist and Giveaway

No wishlist for baby jewellery can be complete without one of these. It’s a staple jewellery piece and one of the only things I would buy for Baby Girl at this age as it’s simple and can’t be a choking hazard due to the design. A silver baby bangle is one of the ultimate baby jewellery gifts you could buy and the engraving option makes it extra special and extra personalised. I wanted to get one of these for Baby Girl’s first birthday but didn’t have enough money as we spent it all on her birthday party so it’s on our list for this Christmas instead.

Review: Personalised gifts for her from JewelleryBox.co.uk

The Greenwich Mummy Blog | Jewellery Box Review

It’s Mother’s Day – woop woop! 🙂

Happy Mother’s Day!

It’s been such a long time since I last posted anything and it’s because there’s been quite a few changes. I came up to the end of my maternity leave and decided to go back to work… just not back to where I was working. There was nothing wrong with the place – I had a good team, the workload was manageable and I liked the workplace but now with two children under 5, the commuting made me anxious to return.

I found another job closer to home, it’s literally a 5 mins walk away which obviously much more convenient in terms of travel. Dropping off LO at nursery is en route to work and the job role gives me more flexibility. I can choose to work from home if I have childcare problems and can’t get into the office and I can spread my hours over the week (working half-days) without having to worry about any bus, tube or train commuting. Ker-ching!

So that’s basically why I’ve not been present on the old blogosphere for the last month. Work is manic – I have paperwork, bookings and deadlines up to my ears. Already! It’s stressful but I guess it is because it’s still early days. When I got an email asking if I’d like to write a review on personalised jewellery I said yes without hesitation. It’s been such a long time since I owned any piece of jewellery it was a chance for me to reintroduce myself to it.

I’m always torn between gold and silver so I picked a dainty little gold bracelet with ID plate and a silver disc pendant necklace – both of these items were from the personalisation collection so that meant I could add an engraving of my choice on to the jewellery. I chose the simple engraving of “K & A” for the initials of LO and Baby Girl. Both items arrived quickly and were presented in beautiful gift boxes. If you love dainty, quirky little jewellery pieces you need to check out their website. Continue reading “Review: Personalised gifts for her from JewelleryBox.co.uk”

Fitness Tuesday: My Summer Sportswear Wishlist

The Greenwich mummy - Fitness Tuesdays

My Fitness Journey so far…

If you’ve been following me on Instagram (@mannyngo) you will know that I have started to embark on a journey to a healthier lifestyle over the last few weeks. My ab-separation has pretty much gone now – at most they are between 1-1.5 finger width apart. Around the belly button feels a little more like just under 2 finger widths apart but I think it’s normally a little more gappy around the belly button.

I started off with going to a mum & baby pilates class by Bing Pilates (which I am still attending now) and then a week later I signed up to my local Better Gym and now take several fitness classes a week. I also experimented with different classes. Continue reading “Fitness Tuesday: My Summer Sportswear Wishlist”

Review: Dry Kids Children’s Waterproof Dungarees

It’s no surprise that when it rains, I don’t like to take LO outside because he comes back DRENCHED – not because it’s raining but because he is constantly splashing in every puddle he can find. Whether it’s a little tiny puddle or a massive puddle that goes up to his ankles… he’s in them!

It’s not a nightmare when he’s got the right shoes on going to nursery but when he doesn’t, it actually makes my blood boil because it means he’ll be wet all day long and I can’t stand knowing that he’s damp (think of all that nasty bacteria breeding!!) Wellies have become one of our staple buys now – it got to a point when I wanted LO to have three pairs; one to keep at nursery, one to keep at home and one to keep at Ba’s (grandma’s) house so he’s always prepared. Continue reading “Review: Dry Kids Children’s Waterproof Dungarees”

Pregnancy: On the hunt for a “pretty” nursing bra

My Pregnancy | The Greenwich Mummy
Maternity Lingerie: Nursing Bras | The Greenwich Mummy

Who said maternity lingerie had to be frumpy looking? Most maternity bras on the market for us mums-to-be nowadays have better shapes, are really comfy and designed to look good and feel good. (Finally!)

In my recent search I came across so many maternity lingerie brands; some names that I really liked and recognised, others that I hadn’t heard of, or didn’t like the look of. Most of the bras though looked amazing and seemed like they would feel comfy too. Maternity bras comes mainly in three types; non-nursing, nursing, and sleeping. I definitely want a nursing bra as I will be breastfeeding Baby Girl and will need something to see me through those booby-milk days but I want something that would be comfortable enough to fall asleep in too.

I really loved my Emma Jane nursing bra that was given to me at LO’s baby shower and I practically lived in it for the whole 6 months that I breastfed LO however it really unattractive and frumpy looking so this time, I just want something just a little bit “prettier”.

Here’s my wishlist of the nursing bras I’ve found online which I really like…

Heidi Klum IntimatesThe Greenwich Mummy | Lingerie: Maternity Bras

This nursing bra by Heidi Klum Intimates looks comfortable yet stylish. I love the black and cream colour because it’s just simple and the design is one that I think I would wear on a daily basis. Also, as it’s a nursing bra, it’ll see me through my breastfeeding days so no need to switch from a non-nursing to nursing bra.

Hot MilkThe Greenwich Mummy | Maternity Lingerie & Bras

I really love this bra by Hot Milk. It looks like my Emma Jane nursing bra that I had when I gave birth to LO which was sooo comfy but I’m not going to lie – it looked hideous and didn’t sit well under my clothes. However this one seems to look smoother and seamless so it shouldn’t be visible under my clothes. I love comfort and rate it more higher than looks so this bra will probably be my first nursing bra purchase.

Amoralia

nougatine-ig-matbranewThis beautiful silk-soft stretch satin and lace bra by Amoralia looks absolutely amazing. The luxurious design doesn’t compromise the functional or practical aspects of the bra. The material is stretchy so it’ll mould and move with your body, not against it. So no chaffing underarms or irritated/itchy nipples and cleavage – woop woop! The bra comes in the black/cream version which is pretty but my favourite is the nude/cream colour.

Topshop Maternity

ts44u18ippk_zoom_f_1This lovely bra from the Topshop Maternity collection. It’s a very simple looking maternity bra – a little cute albeit – and is very much a basic essential maternity bra. It’s the cheapest out of all the bras I’ve mentioned in this post which I am a little scared will reflect in the quality of the material. I mean, Topshop is my go-to place for clothing (especially denim jeans!) however for my maternity wear… I am not 100% sold on it yet. I will need to go to the shops to try it out and see. It may just surprise me!

Former yummy mummies, if you have any recommendations that you can offer me it will be greatly appreciated!

My Latest Primark Haul

I loooooove Primark – they are great for basics and the price is so cheap, you could actually buy two pairs to ensure that you will continue have that cherished item in your wardrobe. Sadly, I didn’t purchase any doubles but I really love the three items I picked up today.

This is my second Primark haul (click here to see the first haul) and as you can see, I don’t purchase a lot and I don’t go clothes shopping a lot either as I’m a bit of a hoarder. So I purchased a floral canvas bag (£1.50), black culottes (£5), and blue high-waist skinny jeans (£10).

The Greenwich Mummy | Primark Haul 2

I am in love with the floral canvas bag! I am a bit of a collector for canvas bags and this is the prettiest one I have seen in a while. I am considering to buy this again because I know once it starts getting dirty, it’s going to need a wash and will probably shrink or become distorted in shape after the wash… sad times. The black culottes are going to be my new staple bottoms for work. I’ve been looking for a pair for a while now and this one was the best shape and fabric so I had to purchase it – it was also on sale for £5 so a bargain really! With the blue jeans, they are a cross between jeans and jeggings as they are really stretchy but not classed as jeggings as they have a proper sip-fly and button unlike jeggings.

The colour is amazing and is what attracted me to them as I have been looking for denim in a similar shade but can never find it. It’s like the traditional blue that you used to be able to find widely, just all one colour not washed with other colours nor bleached. Perfect. I am also loving high-waist jeans as it works well with long and short tops; crop top and high-waist skinnies are on trend this summer so I shall be joining that trend. Who says being a mummy means I need to dress all frumpy 🙂

I also found a wonderful monochrome cardigan (£12) which I think would be lovely for our British summers. It’s light enough to wear when it’s sunny but windy or not as warm, and would also be perfect for those cool summer nights. I love the geometric pattern and anything monochrome is always an added bonus for me!

The Greenwich Mummy | Primark Haul 2

Have you purchased anything this week or planning to buy something? Let me know what you think of my latest purchases in the comment box below. 🙂

Manny | The Greenwich Mummy Signature

My Monochrome Primark Haul

I went on a short trip to Primark (Lewisham branch) and found these wonderful items! Everything came to under £20 – what a bargain! All these items could potentially make an outfit (will obviously need something to wear on the bottom half of course!).

IMG_9150
Stripey Top (£4), Mini Bucket Bag (£4), White Sandals (£10)

I simply love stripes and nothing beats classic black and white/cream stripes. When I saw this top and instantly knew I had to add it to my collection – I love wearing colours but have found myself leaning more towards monochrome fashion. I recently bought a pair of stretchy trousers from H&M which I think would go perfect with this top. Failing that I have my black leggings and jeggings as a back-up choice.

My white Orlando bag from JustFab is the perfect size when I am going work as I have more things to store in it but for my casual days out or when I am just running errands I need a smaller bag (I have a separate bag for LO) so I have been on a major lookout for a small bag that suits me and my style/personality… along came the bucket bag. It has a very casual slouchy look but can be instantly dressed up for a more sophisticated look. This one that I found from Primark has a Chanel-esque vibe about it (maybe it’s the quilting) which drew me to it. It’s so cute and cheap I think I need to purchase a few more in case it wears out before its time, or gets sold out, or becomes discontinued.

The white sandals are a new favourite for me. I can’t really wear high heels anymore due to my ankles and the pressure that build up means I can only wear heels under 4 inches and chunky heels provide me with better support than stilettos. Now that chunky platform sandals and heels are in fashion, it’s the perfect time for me! I found these gorgeous white sandals among all the other chunky platform heels. The height of the heel is about 1.5 inches which is just enough for everyday wear and the crossover pattern provides adequate support for my feet. I also hate my feet due to a massive bunion on my right foot that makes me really conscious of it but these sandals hide it really well and make my feet look slimmer so I had to buy it!

I am in love with Primark and my recent haul. I will post a photo of me wearing my latest purchases very soon!

Signature2

My Mini H&M Haul

Today during my little break from LO, I decided to take a quick visit to H&M. I haven’t been shopping for a little while as money’s tight right now but I couldn’t help myself.

So after two hours’ of trying a million things on, I nailed my mini-haul to three essential items for this Spring/Summer:

My H&M Mini-Haul
Furry cropped jumper, super stretch trousers, and classic plimsolls

Apologies for the blurred image again – I need a new memory card as I’m sharing the current one with my sister so when she’s out with it I can’t use the camera. 😦

So here are the three items I purchased:

  1. Furry cropped jumper in navy
  2. Super stretchy trousers in ivory
  3. Classic pimsolls in white

These are super simple items but I think they will be able to get me through most of the casual spring/summer days. The furry jumper is light and easy to carry around making it a perfect item for when those balmy days turn to cooler nights. The super stretch trousers are high-waisted with a concealed side zip which beautifully hugs my figure without making me feel uncomfortable. The high-waist also hides my lumps and bumps and smoothens out my body contour. White is the colour for SS15 and plimsolls are a classic item to invest in.

IMG_8941H&M Loves Coachella 2015
H&M has also launched a new range for SS15; H&M Loves Coachella inspired by the fun-loving festival that is held on 10-19 April 2015.

I tried out the two piece and it was stunning – I couldn’t deny it! Usually I don’t wear two pieces or tribal/aztec patterns but I really like the top and shorts. It can be worn together or separately to mix and match with other pieces in your wardrobe. The top costs £14.99 and the shorts cost £19.99 so relatively cheap compared to other two-piece co-ords that I have seen from other retailers.

My ShowPo Wishlist

SHOWPO is an Australian fashion company that started off as ‘Show Pony’ from Balmain, Sydney back in late 2010. The online retailer has many of the latest trends on sale at a fraction of the high street price. Even though they are based in Australia, there international shipping price is amazingly low from $9AUD which is roughly £5.00 at today’s exchange rate (26/03/2015).

I am deeply into my two-piece co-ordinates this season and I can’t seem to get enough of them. Whether it’s top and skirt, top and trousers, or top and shorts I am loving them all! I’ve decided to base my ShowPo wish list on co-ords so here are my top three choices.

The Greenwich Mummy Blog

The Greenwich Mummy Blog

The Greenwich Mummy Blog

I am simply in love with ShowPo! These three sets come up to just over £100 which is simply a bargain as in the UK, you can usually expect to pay around £40-£50 for a set of co-ordinates especially as the majority of UK stores sell their sets separately to make more money but also gives you more flexibility to choose a different sized top and bottom. I pretty much wear the same size for both top and bottom so it’s cheaper for me to get them in one for a combined price.

I love online shopping because it’s super convenient and if I can buy something I like abroad and they deliver to the UK, that’s even better! The other thing I love particularly with Australian clothing is that their designs are gorgeous and the sizes are the same measurements as the UK’s so if you wear a size UK 8, you’d be a size AUS 8. ShowPo has a size guide on every item page so you can always check that out if you’re not 100% sure. ShowPo offers international delivery (to the UK) at a really decent price – $9/£5 for standard delivery, $20/£11 for express delivery. The site also has a section where previous buyers can post up photos of themselves wearing the item so you can see exactly how the clothes look on ‘real people’.

Click on the following link below to see ShowPo’s full collection or alternatively, you can always click on my sidebar banner which you’ll see throughout the blog – I am sure you will be tempted to. 🙂

My Ipanema Wishlist For Summer

My Ipanema Wish List
Click here to see the full range at Ipanema.uk.com

Summer is approaching thick and fast! I need to start booking my pedicure appointments now to get my toes in tip-top condition and buy a good-quality pair of flip flops from my Ipanema Wish List for summer.

All those long winter months I have been very lazy and neglecting my feet. Apart from a seriously good pedicure, they also need some good-fitting sandals this year. Ever since my pregnancy the soles of my feet have become really dry and the back of the feet are hard and slightly cracking so a paraffin wax pedicure is definitely in order. I am also thinking of having CND Shellac gel on my toes this summer as they last much longer than normal polish. If you’re going abroad and to the beach, I’d highly recommend a gel polish because you will be able to dip your feet in the sea and the sand won’t be able to chip your polish!

I also can’t wear heels anymore since I have had LO so I think the easiest way to give my feet a good rest is to invest in some well-made summer footwear. No more cheap £4.00 flip flops from Primark that wear away within two weeks and leave my soles black from the friction. I’ve seen two pairs from the Ipanema official UK website that have taken my fancy; they are the Festival sandal and the Bella Platform.

My Ipanema Wish List
The Ipanema Festival Sandal (£20)

The Festival Sandal, £20 is incredibly stylish and would look great during the day or at night. The pretty gold chevron detail looks gorgeous and can be easily teamed up simple accessories and maxi dress for a casual style or dressed up with denim jeans for a night out.

The Bella Platform, £22 is perfect for adding some height to your look, platform sandals are also recommended if you (like me) walk with more pressure applied on the back of the foot. I love the Bella design as it’s simple but stylish and the added heel will provide my feet with some gentle relief and won’t wear away easily.

About The Company
The company originates from Brazil and all of the footwear is only produced by their own factories located in the North of Brazil. Each flip flop is made with Brazilian spirit and culture in mind hence the vibrant and colourful designs. Ipanema sandals are 100% recyclable and can only be bought in the UK by selected official stockist.
