It’s not everyday that you get to share a ride and a book reading with a celebrity but for Daisy Turner, Matthew Hook and Joseph Koeahi, that is exactly what they experienced last Wednesday. I was asked by the TFL team to cover this fabulous story’s press release which, of course, I accepted! I am very passionate about reading and being a Beanstalk reading helper, I thought this was a brilliant competition. More companies should do this for children as I am sure it would really encourage and inspire them to read.

TFL launched this competition in February in aid of World Book Day. Three lucky winners would win a 20-minute ride on the Emirates Air Line plus an exclusive book reading with ‘The Bolds To The Rescue’ author, Julian Clary. The winners were announced on February 28th and on Wednesday 2nd March, the children took to their reading to new heights (literally) with the comedian-turned-author by their side. Each child also received a signed copy of The Bolds To the Rescue book which was released by Anderson Press on World Book Day, March 3rd 2016.

The special event also marked the start of Clary’s new UK tour which will commence this April, celebrating his thirty-year reign as a renowned comedian. Tickets can be purchased from www.julianclary.co.uk

Julian Clary had this to say about the storytelling experience;

“It was a special moment to read parts of my new book The Bolds to the Rescue, in such a scenic location. All the children thoroughly enjoyed the book, which has made me even more excited for the release tomorrow.” (excerpt from the press release)

It wasn’t just Clary that had a brilliant day out – the children also felt the same. Matthew’s dad, Steve also confirmed his son’s excitement “…to have a storytelling experience across the Thames with a famous author was unforgettable”. I, for one, would be over the moon to be able to have an exclusive book reading with a great author over the river Thames! 🙂

I’ve been on the Emirates Air Line with LO and my sisters for his 2nd birthday and it’s a great experience. If you’ve been on the London Eye, I’d definitely recommend booking a ‘flight’. Here’s a photo of us mid-flight over the Thames:

We booked the Discovery package so also got entry to the Emirates Aviation museum which is located beside the cable cars upon departure at the Greenwich entrance. LO fancied being a pilot so he had a play around on the flight simulator and donned a Emirates pilot hat whilst I’d put on the Emirates cabin crew hat and channeled my inner air-hostess.

If you’re looking for something to do this Mother’s day why not treat your mum or a mummy friend to a lovely experience? It’s about a 20 minute flight so just enough time to enjoy a little bit of bubbly in style! …I’ve hinted this to Daddy P for us to do in the morning. 🙂
