Friday evening, LO and I went to Sticks ‘n’ Sushi Greenwich for a meal and a catch-up with a former work colleague. The restaurant has only recently opened and as we both love Japanese food and sushi, we decided to give the restaurant a try.
The restaurant looks sleek and sophisticated. As you enter, it looks really dark as it’s basically all black with amber lighting to provide an intimate atmosphere. The front of the restaurant looks small which adds an intimate feel to the place. Our table was towards the other end of the restaurant, near to the kitchen. This side was much lighter and had a clean, airy feel which was much nicer, especially if you have a little one tagging along. In my opinion the darker side is better for couples and dates and the lighter side is for friends and family gatherings.
LO and I came late so we skipped starters and went straight for the mains; we ordered rice, chicken meatball stick, and chicken wings stick. The rice was cooked well and the meatballs were very tasty. They were covered lightly with a soy sauce which kept it moist and delicious. The chicken wings were okay – I’ve had better… they were also really tiny! My friend ordered edamame beans with a spicy miso sauce for starters and a large vegetarian vermicelli salad which looked really nice (she also said it was tasty so a great choice for both of us!). Funnily enough, neither of us ordered sushi but we didn’t think it was a big deal.
We both decided to get dessert as the menu looked so good we could say no. Our waiter had recommended us the creme brulées and I can tell you they were amazing! My friend got a Yuzu sorbet which was very refreshing. The citrus taste was very different to what I’ve tasted before but really nice. I got the black sesame ice cream with nougatine glass shards and the white coffee creme brulée and both were extremely yummy and very satisfying. My total bill came to just under £19 including service charge which is really cheap for a restaurant like Stick ‘n’ Sushi, but we didn’t really order a proper main or had any starters so I am sure the meal would’ve costed us around £25-30 if we had ordered the whole works. I would say that is still cheap for an excellent quality meal out.
If you are looking to go, definitely do it! It won’t let you down. The staff are very helpful and friendly especially towards children too. My only niggle would be is that the service was quite slow. I’m not sure if this is because they want their guests to have more time for a better dining experience by not feeling rushed or whether they have just been short-staffed, or the staff are just really slow. It doesn’t matter – we had a brilliant time and will definitely be back. Well done Sticks & Sushi Greenwich!
Tip: Definitely book your table in advance and it’s best to take a look at the menu before going as there’s a lot to choose from!
